|This July sees the first large scale exhibition of the work of Colin Birchall since his death in 2014. The exhibition, at The Crypt St Ives has been curated by Colin’s family and includes a large selection of Colin’s work - including pieces from his gallery in St Ives (which closed directly after his death) and previously unseen work from his personal collection.
Colin was a popular and prolific painter and stalwart of the St Ives Art scene. Typically using Acrylic on canvas, Colin’s Abstract work is inspired by the ferocity and beauty of the Cornish coastline.
This exhibition will display a wide range of these paintings covering many sizes and colour palettes. After many years of painting in various styles and achieving great commercial success, Colin was finally able to realise his dream of opening a gallery in his much loved St Ives, painting the Abstract work that he felt most passionately about that will now be displayed at this final exhibition of his work.
For those interested in Colin’s early work, there will also be a small retrospective ‘corner’ dating back to his time in Art College, throughout his career as a designer and Art Director in the ‘70s and ‘80s and up to his move to Cornwall where he produced a wide and varied portfolio of work that led him to ultimately follow his passion for Abstract painting that we see today.
